Jerry Chinn: One of Jerry’s earliest childhood memories is “directing” and photographing his first-grade classmates with a Kodak box camera. This passion for photography and filmmaking has taken him through photojournalism studies at the University of Utah, and as a photo/film major at the renowned Art Center College of Design. Following college, he worked as an advertising photo-illustrator in Los Angeles, then spent nearly ten years working in the Hollywood TV and motion picture industry.
Best known for his amazing images of wildlife, birds and indigenous people, Jerry’s photos have won numerous awards and appeared in international and national publications. In addition, his independently produced documentary films have shown at international film festivals and on public and commercial television. About his work, Jerry says, “Whether it’s a photo or film, my goal is to tell a story and reach the viewer on an emotional level.”
Jerry’s other passion is travel and travel photography. To date, he’s been to more than 25 different countries and favorites several times. “It’s always a difficult decision… whether to explore someplace new, or return to a place I love,” says Jerry. Each year, he tries to do some of both. He’s also been a featured photographer and travel writer for several online and print publications.
For the last 10 years, Jerry has shared his passion for photography and travel by organizing and leading photo workshop-expeditions to southern Africa, South and Central America, and picturesque places across the globe. In addition, he’s shared his experience and expertise through college courses and workshops. “My goal is to help students broaden their technical skillset, but most importantly to inspire them to explore their personal vision and style.”
