What’s special about a photo journey?

Whether you use a smart phone or camera, if you want to capture amazing images you’ll be proud to share, then a photo journey is for you. All our photo journeys are limited to a maximum of 12 participants, ensuring you the maximum of one-on-one guidance and instruction.

Our photo journeys are structured to:

  • Provide a real-world learning experience in a creative and interactive environment, with an award-winning photographer as your mentor
  • Give you the opportunity to photograph unique and amazing subjects at their best
  • Provide an enjoyable experience with like-minded travelers

How is a photo journey different from our regular journeys? Most importantly, photography is the foremost priority. This means the schedule and all efforts are geared to finding the best subjects, under the best conditions (time of day, lighting, POV, etc.) While the creature comforts aren’t ignored, In practice, it can mean forgoing a leisurely breakfast in order to capture the sunrise, or having a late dinner so we can photograph subjects bathed in the glow of the setting sun.

Also, being with fellow photo enthusiasts, you’re not tied to a fixed schedule or in conflict with travelers having different priorities. So, when there’s a good photo opportunity, we can linger as long as we like, and move on when we’re done… it’s our call.

Included in your photo journey learning experience:

  • Pre-journey preparation – guidance, recommendations and exercises to ensure you the best possible experience and achievements
  • Group tutorials – how to achieve your photographic goals
  • Group photo review, critique and Q&A
  • Full time one-on-one mentoring and support

Who are they for?

If you enjoy having people look at your travel photos and say, “Wow!” if you want your travel photos to take you back to the moment and excite you all over again, and if you ever asked yourself, “why didn’t my photo turn out like I envisioned?” Then, a photography journey is for YOU!

Our photo journeys are designed for people with all levels of photography experience, from novice to professional. Whatever your background and photography tool-of-choice, smart phone or camera, there’s always room to improve your skillset and new ways to express and explore your creativity.

Many people feel intimidated by what is perceived as the technical, technological knowledge required to take great photos. And, once upon a time, that was true. However, with today’s smart phones and smart digital cameras, taking great photos is a lot easier than you might think. Unlike many photography workshops and classes, our photography journeys welcome modern technology and automation. It’s about understanding just how “smart” your photo device is. Then, the most important photographic tool comes into play… the one between your ears.

Your mind, your imagination, and your skill at “seeing” what you’re looking at is the critical factor. It’s what ultimately gives you the ability to capture unique, mind-blowing images. Perhaps you know or have heard of some “rules” for photography, regarding composition, lighting, camera settings, etc. However, our perspective is there are no rules, just principles to be used and manipulated to achieve your vision.

During the workshop portion of our photography journeys, we’ll explain and explore these principles, with the goal of helping you find your “visual voice” and making it heard.

Why Botswana?

https://skytravelnetwork.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/12/Jerry-Photo-Gallery-2-Copy-1280x857.jpg

Botswana has become a preferred safari destination for several reasons:

Health – It is rated “low risk” by WHO and CDC for diseases typically found in other parts of Africa. No shots are required to visit Botswana;**

Safety – The crime rate is low, especially against tourists.

Political Stability – Unlike many parts of Africa, there is no political unrest or rebel movements. In fact, it is the longest, continuous running democracy in Africa.

Economy – Botswana is NOT a third-world country. The economy is stable, being the world’s largest producer of diamonds, followed by cattle production and tourism. All its citizens enjoy free healthcare and education.

Wildlife Preservation – Nurturing the abundant and diverse wildlife is a top priority, as is the Country’s anti-poaching program. Nearly 40% of Botswana’s land mass is dedicated to habitat and wildlife conservation.

**Consult your physician for specific recommendations. Although low risk, some form of malaria prevention is advised.
